We are builders of architecturally designed contemporary homes, townhouses and apartments.
Napier Street is a home of considered contrast, from the heritage frontage which integrates with the surrounding streetscape to the open plan and light filled rear living areas – a home with lifestyle amenity at its core.
A design challenge that turned into an opportunity is that the site slopes front to back, which allowed for a split level on the ground floor.
This provided an ideal transition point between the existing heritage building and the stylish rear extension. Stepping down from the old home into a new open plan living area facilitated high ceilings with large expanses of glazing. This further integrated with outdoor entertaining areas and allowed for views over the pool and rear yard.
In startling contrast to the original single-story heritage frontage, the first-floor rear extension is curved to provide a sculptural design feature when viewed from the rear yard. The elegant curve is formed with thin vertical strips of timber inset with a large louvred viewing window. The placement and design minimise overshadowing of the neighbouring property and provide an elegant entrance to the rear first-floor bedroom.
The material selection for the new extension is deliberately bold, contrasting with soft toned areas to create a refreshing private oasis within a high-density inner city setting. The heritage past now truly meets the contemporary future.
