The main streetfront faces onto the inviting greens of Kooringal Golf Club. The corner of the property overlooks the park reserve that connects to Altona’s sun-kissed strip of sandy beach.
Our vision was to create a set of six refined townhouses that are both contemporary in design and reflect the beach setting they are located within. The individual townhouses are each bespoke in design, yet sit harmoniously within the overall development.
An initial challenge was to sensitively integrate a highly contemporary building into the existing streetscape. This was overcome by pairing dwellings so that each pair appeared to have an overall gable roof form to reflect the established style of surrounding residences.
As all six townhouses face the same street a further challenge was to provide an individual sense of address for each dwelling.
Dark grey brickwork with white pointing and panels of off-white render serve to highlight the façade framing. Glazing extends from floor level to the sharp diagonals of the gable roofline. At street level, the combination of off-white brickwork and natural timber tones work to soften the overall building mass.
True to their beachside location, interiors are open, spacious, flooded with natural light and softened with louvre windows where necessary. Living spaces open onto glass-framed balconies arranged to capture bay views and golf course greenery from as many vantage points as possible.
